Staging Addiction
First Engagement
Pain, the razor to waking
the violent metaphor
of creeping disease
there to message peril
and broken bloody messes.
Memorized by flesh
and when the visit is stayed
inviting a frantic anxiety
setting an addictive stage.
The War
Just you and thief who begs
a rigorous grin and the map
to hidden caches.
Fear, coddled, sedated
rage at remembered befores.
Dirty gauze wrapping
on every sequestered hope
every sequential dream.
Weapons of Destruction
Bullets and a glass-
time released forgetfulness
diluted impressions, half
remembered sentences.
Waking and walking clocks
lucid in the face of the aggressor.
The mirror's cold clarity
white under hot blue eyes.
Traitor
The pipe of the enemy
plays in the frayed interior
drums beat
muffled accusations
incomprehensible allegations.
The Siege
The sharp knife, sheathed-
mysterious table bruises-
hours bent and twisted-
lank stares into nothing.
A Truce
Pale degenerate sun
captures the face
fingers the contours
remembers a match book
scratched nines and ones.
Taking the pain
folding it into corners
kept like a secret, like fire
to burn through haze
to illuminate a karmic lie.
