You are there – a darkness
marked with x’s so I
can find you in this
negative photograph – nothing
but an absence to explain

no heartbeat

my womb
a shell left abandoned
and overlooked; shadows cast,
but not by sunlight, on all
that remains of you

a pomegranate seed

in the center of my palm,
easily mistaken for a torn
rose petal, a bit of paint
left on empty canvas,
a drop of dried

blood on sterile tile
