“The end of spring-
the poet is brooding
about editors”
-Buson
It’s 9:30 PM, the moon shining thru the trees.
Pale ivory, midnight wrapped in blue and tie-dyed gold,
early summer memories
are like plastic boxes full of winter clothes.
Earlier I watched an old Sophia Loren movie
starring nothing but her bedroom eyes.
Lost in their depths, my longings become
more than I can realize.
The hours pass, melting into the night
I edit another freshly rejected poem
plucked from the growing discard pile.
An old CCR tune “Suzy Q” plays in the void
with fading echoes of “I love you”.
It hits me, There are no stairs to climb,
nothing leads to my “Stairway to Heaven”.
