Where we float, we fly
with pieces of heart in our mouth
small window, small world.
in her India eye, blue water
green planet, a blooming iris
They are angels and science
around this small miracle
laughter tinged with awe
awe tinged with distance.
There, is my house, my garden
my child, my wife
on a tear that is more than salt
more than water,
a brilliance on a beautiful girl
far from its wet song, its source.
We are stars, the dust and debris
the fire behind the thirst-
-and they burn, purify
fall from a clear Texas sky.
Here is her smile, her memory
the names of her friends on a patch.
We stand guard, our eyes half-mast
knowing this is hallowed ground.
