Tara
Birch
Temporary Insanity
Settle in my child, and listen tonight
for the words I speak will grant no relief.
Nothing I say, or do, can make this right.
I held the gun until it flashed with light
and for that I bought my curse and my grief.
Settle in my child, and listen tonight
for never again will you witness this sight:
a man destroyed by his own disbelief.
Nothing I say, or do, can make this right.
She called it a lie, and a vicious slight,
but rage carried me; my judgment was brief.
Settle in my child, and listen tonight,
for the trigger I pulled was much too light;
in an instant I made myself her thief.
Nothing I say, or do, can make this right.
The blood on her gown was dark red and bright,
painting me in the jealous lover's motif.
Settle in my child, and listen tonight:
nothing I say, or do, can make this right.
